Robert Hastings House

Living near the construction site of the Peasley Garrison house was the James Davis, Jr. family.  In 1676 Robert Hastings married the daughter, Elizabeth, of James Davis, Jr.  James presented the newly weds with 20 acres of land on the south side of what is now East Broadway in Haverhill, MA.  Robert built a house on this site where he and Elizabeth raised seven children.  The outstanding feature of the house is the central chimney into which five fireplaces enter.  The foundation for the chimney takes up one-third of the basement space.  A porch in the back was the site of the Hastings ordinary.  Like the Peasley Garrison house the Robert Hastings house is still standing, and being lived in today, 2015.  I visited the house in 2005 and the current owners kindly let me take the following photographs.
