John Hastings was the youngest son of Robert & Elizabeth Hastings. He was instrumental in the building of the meeting house in West Haverhill. The result was the division of Haverhill to form a new town of Methuen. A record of the death and burial of John has not been found. At the Spring 1728 town meeting, at Methuen, it was voted to grant John's wife a small amount of money for his service as a town selectman. At the same meeting a selectman was elected to take his place.
