Pam, there could be several answers. One of the big stumbling blocks in genealogy is women's maiden names. They are easily passed over and lost. There could likely be a record that lists a man's wife as the daughter of Thomas Goddard with no other clues to her identity. If baptismal or death records can not be found she will life in eternity as "Daughter."
Deletemakes sense now; sad facts just the same.
