Roberts or Hawley

This week we have a Brick Wall.  I have an interesting story but no facts about our ancestor William H. Roberts.  The story goes like this:
In 1828 the parents of William, Susan and Glorian Hawley were murdered by Indians.  The children were adopted and raised by a Roberts family in Warren County and subsequently took the Roberts surname.  We know that William married Axey Hill and lived in Chestertown.  We also know that Glorian (Her name has been spell several different ways.) married Joesph Pellitier, from Three Rivers Canada, and raised a large family in Thurman.  What we don't know is the true story of their parents.
For me the first suspicious fact is the parents being murdered by Indians in 1828.  Indian hostilities were long over in Warren county in 1828.
These are bits of information that have never been proved or disproved:
1) William, Glorian & Susan's Father was William Hawley.
2) William, Glorian & Susan's Mother was a Sabael Indian of the Abanaki tribe.
3) William, Glorian & Susan's Mother was a daughter of Sabael Benedict.
4) The Hawley Society refers to William H. Roberts as William H. Hawley stating that he is buried at Darrowsville under that name.
5) There was, for some time, a family named Holley that lived in Chestertown.

I need some help to knock down this Brick Wall.  If you have any bits of information it may be helpful in piecing together the true story of our ancestry.  I hope to hear from you.

  1. My lineage traces from Joseph and Glorian Pelletier, and I have the same questions as you about the family. Did you ever find any more information about them?
