A quick reply to your blog 1/21/13. The first
2 pictures in your mystery line-up (charcoal portraits) are younger Mary &
Rufus D. The framed charcoal portrait of Rufus D. (similar to one of
your images but distinctly a different artist) was likely ordered by Jennie
Maud. The back of Rufus' picture that I have is written the effect of
a return address to "Mrs. Wm Hastings".
The dates of the charcoal images could be 1911 or
earlier as you suggest. However the date of the wood framed portrait was
clearly after Jennie Maud and William were married, and living in Hill
View.
It's curious that different charcoal renditions
exist of the younger Rufus D.
Roscoe,
I looked again at your mystery people and found
another possible match. This one looks like Mary and Rufus'
daughter Ellen. (Ellen Lenora (Hastings) Austin b. 12 March 1881, d. 26 November 1961.
Roscoe,
This middle picture of a brother &
sister is mounted in an oval gilded frame (good condition), with oval
matte, old & dusty 1900s vintage. Close resemblance to your
mystery man and mystery baby girl. Grace
and John Hastings ? Grace Hastings b. 25 September 1907 d. 26 December 2000; John Hastings b. 28 November 1905 d. 15 March 1996. They are the children of Franklin & Clara Lavonia (Prosser) Hastings.
