Amos Hastings 1757 - 1829

Amos Hastings, 1757 to 1829, was the youngest son of John Hastings, Jr. and Rebecca Kelly.  John Hastings, Jr. is the older brother of Jonas Hastings my GGGGrandfather and thus my 1st cousin five times removed.
Amos enlisted in Henry Garrish’s regiment New Hampshire Volunteers in September 1777.  He is listed at enrollment as a fifer.  Details of Amos’s Revolutionary War activities are scarce but they do show that he was present and digging trenches at Bunker Hill, the night before the battle.  He was also present at the taking of Burgoyne at Saratoga.  Some sources suggest he was promoted to the rank of Captain but that has not been substantiated.
Following the Revolution, Amos moved to Bethel, Maine where he became one of its most prominent citizens.  He achieved the rank of Brigadier General of the 2nd Brigade, 13th Division of the Maine Militia in 1815.  In the War of 1812 he volunteered to serve but was never called.
